That’s basically what the face looks like. I was born in Jerusalem and raised in Cleveland and Boston. I am the author of Running the Books: The Adventures of an Accidental Prison Librarian (Nan A. Talese/Doubleday). The book has translated into four languages–but four important ones, like Chinese, and not little crappy ones, like Hebrew. It has also been optioned for a TV adaptation. My second book, a travelogue of the Great American Novel–the Book of Mormon–will be published by Doubleday in 2014, hopefully not posthumously. I also write for magazines–see Other Bits of Writing. I am also the winner and still champion of the 2012 Harpoon Brewery/Bukowski Tavern short story contest. I tweet at @avi_steinberg. I scrounge for food wherever I can get it.
